Chess Club Twinning Re-started 2010

The opportunity to re-start twinning with the Vannes Chess Club has arisen because of an expression of interest from the French to the Fareham Twinning Committee. Any club member who is interested in this cultural exchange should discuss with Jim Craig, who will put them in touch with the person on the Fareham Twinning Committee who can liaise on details.

Portsmouth District League Individual

Please contact Roger Marsh if you would like to enter this tournament which runs from October to April. Depending on entries this is normally a 6 round swiss with one round played each month. Games are played by arrangement between the players subject to PDL rules. All games are graded. The entry fee is £5.00 and entry is open to members of clubs affiliated to the Portmouth District League. Closing date for entries is 19 October 2009. Entry fees should be sent direct to Steve Billett with cheques payable to Portsmouth District Chess League. If you enter by email it would help if you copy the email to Steve Billett so he knows to be expecting a cheque fairly soon.

Portsmouth & District League AGM

Held at Cosham on 24 September 2009

Dave Elliott's proposal for changes to the Rapidplay League & Patrick Waller's (very generous) offer of two additional trophys, named after Wilf Pratten and Reg Clark, were accepted.

All other significant proposals (such as only 5 boards per match & change of rate of play for Div 3 matches) were rejected.

There will be three Leagues in the 2009-2010 season, each with five teams.

Fareham will have one team in each Division.

There are eight teams in the Cole Cup.

In the first round (to be played by 30 Nov) Fareham B will be at home against Fareham A .
